And now Milton is headed towards Tampa and is a category 5 hurricane. Where are thou now climate deniers?

The 2020s are going to be looked back on as a really disastrous time period...

Everybody I know that lives or has property in FL is safe. Can't say the same for their property. Friends that live near Tampa evacuated. Won't know how their house fared until they are allowed back in. Could be a while. Our favorite beach, Siesta Key just got hammered twice. Haven't seen anything specific about damage there, but it has to be significant... :(

Homer Simpsons voice "the most disastrous time period- so far!"

Parents came out fine as Naples got even less surge than with Ian two years ago. A friend whose mom up in Tampa already had 2ft of water in her house a few weeks back from Helene (enough to lose all the furniture), and not sure how things fared this time. She had just paid the insurance premium, but her kids are trying to get her to move back north to be closer to them. Fair enough- how can you get insurance for something you KNOW is going to happen? :(

Glad your folks are safe. Here in Ohio, we have had just glorious weather for the last two weeks. I was walking the dog last week on a beautiful morning and we both decided that all things considered, Ohio ain't too bad...

Brite was sharing with me that Florida is starting to actually see more people leaving than are staying due to the crazy hurricane seasons. I did read recently that places like Florida and Texas are also not nearly as cheap as they used to be thanks to rising real estate values and taxes that go up with that. Which is also a factor apparently.

Today is officially the last day of summer. By which I mean if you look at the weather forecast, today is still sunny and 70s but starting tomorrow I get a little rain icon on my weather app and the only thing that appears to change is the % probability of rain for the next 10 days after it.

I mean, I was just waiting for the other shoe to fall, but we are 3 months in and I think it's rained 3 times. So far it's by far the best weather climate I've lived in- the question is how much the next 6 months averages out that opinion! :P

You will definitely get some rain and clouds there in the valley in the next 6 months...
But probably no hurricanes. :P
Temp drops here highs in the 50's for the next few days, even a frost warning. Nothing unusual for October in Ohio.
As for FL, I don't know how people can afford to own or build down there anymore. Flood insurance costs have to be absolutely astronomical. Heck, you have to jump through all kinds of hoops HERE to build in a designated flood plain. It appears that ALL of FL and soon most coastal regions will be in perpetual flood plains if not altogether underwater. :?

A few chilly mornings here but beautiful sunny weather the last couple of weeks. Supposed to be in the 70's the next couple of days before turning rainy and cold. Maybe these are the last days of Indian Summer (if I'm still allowed to say that).

The rain did start, but it's been... fine. It's not like it rains all day, and frankly we are still hitting the 70s occasionally which is kind of nuts. (Put it this way, Friday night we had a physics dept BBQ. As F put it, when did we live somewhere before where you have a BBQ in late October?! Biggest thing is just that it gets dark early.)

I feel fall rain in Oregon at least is just "at some part of the day, it WILL rain so plan accordingly," which is honestly how it went in NL so I'm used to just checking the radar before we leave work type thing. So basically I could still go for a short hike on Sunday afternoon, just had to keep my rain jacket inside my backpack and wear it for 5-10min every hour- that I'm ok with!

Glorious fall weather for sure.

We had weird weather for Halloween. Last year it was so cold everyone was bundled up on Halloween. This year we had a high of 78 degrees on October 31st. It actually broke records in Buffalo.

Came over to the Netherlands yesterday to see in-laws (were really lucky seeing northern lights on the plane!) and whoa, was NOT expecting it to be so cold here! Legit properly snowing outside and we have a coat of snow on our deck. Some years in NL I wouldn't even see this much snow all season, so seeing it in mid November is crazy!

Definitely gives a Christmas vibe to everything tho. :)

Got our first snow Thursday, it was just a dusting, but it was beautiful in the trees and bushes. Back to the 50's since then. And spitting rain, normal fall.

Our lake effect snow was late this year. But we did get some over the week-end. Now it’s all melting away and they are predicting more later in the week.

Got plenty cold for a week here with nothing more than flurries. Actual snowfall in northern Ohio. Back up to the 50's again, then down well below freezing later this week. And another possibility of snow. No accumulation impending, I haven't even put the plow back on the Gator yet.

Since we got back from Europe, the weather definitely officially became winter- fog, some rain, just a few degrees above freezing. Well, it's December, who was expecting good weather?

The funny one is all my colder weather jackets are missing- they were presumably packed in a box in July and are still one of the unopened ones in our garage. Thankfully, there was my very old ski jacket already unpacked, so not going freezing, but it's a bit of a high priority to find that particular box right now. :P

There is a reason that the mascots of the two biggest schools in the Willamette Valley, Oregon are the Ducks and the Beavers. :P

Speaking of rain, absolutely pouring right now. A fair amount of rain the last few days. Temps in the 50's. Due to plummet over the weekend, but back up next week, so no chance of a white Christmas. But probably plenty wet.
