Damn, I'm good...
Our algebra assignments are online. The homework has 'helping hands' if you can't solve a problem -- they show you how to do the problem, then give you another one in the same format but different numbers. Had one like this the other night. No matter how many times I tried, I could only get 2parts of the 3 part answer...and the 'help' wasn't. I'd wind up with the right answer, my wrong answer, and 'help's wrong answer.
After deciding not to beat my head against the wall any longer, I scribbled down the parts of the problem in question and showed it all to the instructor tonite. (Keep in mind, I had a 94+% on the assignment to this point.)
So we hashed it over. Found my error (a simple 'added when I shoulda subtracted'), but that still left the wrong answer that 'help' gave. So the instructor brought things up on the computer, and looked at the process...and looked...and looked some more...and looked up and told me that there was a typo on the page...
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaalebloodylujah!!
I wasn't completely right, but I wasn't completely wrong either!
According to the instructor, out of 50 or so people who have told him thus far that the book is wrong on something, I AM THE ONLY ONE who found a real error in the book.
Since we'd gone through the problem and I found my mistake, and since my assignment grade was so high already, AND there was a legitimate error in the book and I brought it to him so he could notify the rest of the class and the online people about it, my grade for that homework went from 94+% to 100%...
I am a freakin' algebraic genius, I are...
