i'm back!

Postby code monkey » Sat Jan 11, 2014 10:33 pm

wasn't sure whether to post this here or in 'good news'. i've been enjoying a bout of the flu. several days of nothing but sleeping. i'm over the worst of it now - the fever's essentially gone and i can think clearly. still tired. i hope to make it out of the house tomorrow and to the pool on monday.

get your flu shot. this is a nasty one. and please don't tell me that you don't get sick because i don't either.
and still i persist in wondering whether folly must always be our nemesis. edgar pangborn

I am SO glad you are feeling better, Love... take it easy, indulge in Jewish penicillin... and know that you are loved (even if I can't get up there to take care of you...)

Poe brought home the "pre-school plague"... Even Fisher caught it... It looked like the flu... it was ugly... I have been making chicken soup almost every weekend....

Good that you're on the mend. Flu's no joke. I'm lucky enough to live in a province where the government pays for flu shots. If you can get one, and afford one, do.

Glad you are feeling better. I hope your recovery continues on the time table you describe.

I've had the flu several times in my younger years. And used to catch colds frequently (once or twice a year). But 10 years ago my doctor gave me an anti-pneumonia shot that he said was good for 5 years. During those 5 years I didn't catch a cold nor catch the flu. So almost five years ago, as I turned 65, I asked my doctor for another anti-pneumonia shot. He ordered it and his nurse administered it. That one is supposed to last for the rest of my life. So far I have not caught either a cold nor the flu. So, in short, I don't take the flu shots. Now, I may think about it next year since I doubt my vaccination will last for the rest of my life (unless that "rest" is shorter than I expect).

Hi CM, glad you are better.

I got my flu shot, back in October. I've been fighting some sort of upper respiratory thing for about 2 weeks; doesn't seem like an ordinary cold, might be a mild case of the flu (which sometimes happens even with the shot). It seems everyone around here is sick. It sucks.

thanks, everyone.

thanks, brite. does that mean that you escaped? i've been relying on my supply of citrus fruit, frozen soup(when cooking always make enough for several meals) and protein bars. i'm down to a few grapefruits, 2 containers of soup but plenty of protein bars. i guess i'll be hitting the grocery store and cooking today.

oldcm, listen to *the* cm. do not play games. you should get both shots; they protect against different things. you've been lucky. medicare covers it so get your scrawny self off to your favorite palace of healing. (no, i'm not always this bossy. sometimes i'm bossier.)

thanks, fz. it's good to be back. i'm trying to catch up on what's been going on.

thanks, tsc. for years i didn't get the shot as i didn't often leave the house. once i was going with michael for his treatments i did get them. i planned to this year but was totally wrong as to the timing. i won't miss it again.

swift, thanks and i'm sorry that you're ill. if you're achy it's probably the flu. you say that you've been contending with it for 2 wks. time to see someone with prescribing authority?

Surely you jest! We spent most of December sick, around here. But being the female in the house, someone has to cook, not to mention I had to manage finals week, right before Yule, do the Yule baking (sorry to one and all that didn't get boxes out this year... I became a mother, once again), study for said finals, suffer through one professor not getting the grades out until last week, and do all the things that were necessary to getting recertified for next semester...

The truth is... I LOVE being a full time mother again. Poe wants to be a good boy. Oh... he has his moments. But he's a joy. And I have a chance to maybe to it right this time, and maybe do the things that I did right with Cookie, with Poe...

Oh, sickness. Buster had a tummy ache and vomited over night so we kept him home today. Of course he's fully recovered and you never would know he was sick. However, Russter came home with a monster ear infection and she was as cranky as I've ever seen her. I'll be home with her again tomorrow.

It's like everyone came back from the holidays and diseases exploded all around.
